Can We Detect Peritoneal Adhesions With MRI and CT Prior to Abdominal Surgery?

چکیده

This article is part 2 of our review assessing diagnostic modalities. In the first part, we analyzed ultrasonography capabilities to detect abdominal adhesions. The second assesses effectiveness MRI and CT. CT modalities are much less commonly used in detecting adhesions than ultrasonography. has approximately same prognostic as between viscera wall, it additionally detects organs. Yet, significantly more time-consuming highly dependent on radiologist experience. Like ultrasonography, determines extent but not type. Native does visualize adhesions, though its findings artificial pneumoperitoneum superior value those MRI, so this modality should be considered.

Adhesions after abdominal surgery in children.

PURPOSE The objective of this study is to quantify the overall burden (operative and nonoperative) of small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions after laparotomy in children. METHODS Data from the Scottish National Health Service Medical Record Linkage database were used to assess risk of an adhesion-related readmission in the 5 years after open abdominal surgery in children and adolescents ...

Morbidity related to concomitant adhesions in abdominal surgery.

BACKGROUND We sought to assess the independent effect of concomitant adhesions (CAs) on patient outcome in abdominal surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data, we created a uniform data set of all gastrectomies, enterectomies, hepatectomies, and pancreatectomies performed between 2007 and 2012 at our tertiary acade...

Intra-abdominal administration of bevacizumab diminishes intra-peritoneal adhesions.

AIM To determine the effect of a single dose of bevacizumab on adhesion formation in the rat cecum abrasion model. METHODS The cecum and parietal peritoneum of 38 male Wistar rats were abraded to promote adhesion formation. The rats were randomized into 2 groups: group 1 received bevacizumab (2.5 mg/kg) intraperitoneally, and group 2 received saline. On day 30 animals were killed, adhesions s...

Peritoneal closure and adhesions.

We have read the debate on peritoneal closure by Cheong et al. with interest (Cheong et al., 2001). The authors state that the long term benefits and hazards of non-closure of the peritoneum are unknown, and expect adhesion related problems. Among the various outcome measures concerning long-term morbidity, adhesion formation/reformation is probably one of the most important ones. The presence ...

What can we see with IVIM MRI?

Intravoxel Incoherent Motion (IVIM) refers to translational movements which within a given voxel and during the measurement time present a distribution of speeds in orientation and/or amplitude. The IVIM concept has been used to estimate perfusion in tissues as blood flow in randomly oriented capillaries mimics a pseudo-diffusion process. IVIM-based perfusion MRI, which does not require contras...
